The Gifts of Grief

When we are going through the hard parts everything feels surreal. It can feel as if we are out of time and space while others around us just keep going about their lives as if nothing happened. We can feel angry or even envious as the world continues to move while we are in the midst of picking up the pieces.

But time eventually does move on for us. We start to re-connect to ourselves and to those around us. We even get back to our own routines and business of life. But we are forever changed by what happened.

It is still hard but there are gifts we can take from our experience:

We have more gratitude for how precious and fragile it all is. We may become more mindful and reflective of joyous moments because we know how these moments may not last.

We cultivate compassion as we strive to forgive others and to forgive ourselves.

We find motivation to help others through similar storms. We have deeper empathy and know how critical connection is to people when they are struggling with grief and loss.

We are more resilient. We know that we can survive the heavy winds and stay standing.

We are stronger.

There is always treasure. Be patient and know you will find it when you are ready.
