It is so easy to fall into the trap of belieivng everything is horrible when we are feeling depressed, disconnected, and helpless to effect change in the world and in our own lives. Falling into these dark spaces creates feelings of hopelessness, willfulness, and despair. It makes sense that we can’t see the forest through the trees at these times but the reality is we are looking at the world through tilted glasses.
There is always hope but to find it requires steady faith. Faith in you, faith in your neighbors, and faith in a higher power (if you have one) are the paths we need to find. There is so much out of your control so stop expending your energy where it is not utilized effectively. You have control over this moment and…that…is…it. Find laughter, connect to others, help someone who is struggling, and start your day with doing something just for you. End your day with something just for you.
Capture moments of joy, be intentional about your gratitude practice, and create meaningful (and realistic) goals so you not only create a life worth living but that you also can mark your progress along the way. And celebrate every victory, every project you complete (before jumping into the next one), and remember that every step counts. It is NOT all bad and if you don’t believe me then you may need to clean your glasses.
