How Do You Mark Progress?

Oftentimes many of my clients will focus on where they are falling down versus what they are doing to stand back up. You can’t really mark your progress by whether or not you fall down. The truth is activation happens and it may or may not go away over time. For some people it absolutely does but for many it remains long after the bomb goes off. After all, trauma is a brain injury and the hot spots may continue to get tapped as you move along your journey.

But over time the injuries do begin to heal. Mark progress by how quickly you get back up after you feel triggered (the falling down). You will find that over time you don’t go down as far or as long. Frequency of activation begins to change over time as you begin to realize “episodes” don’t happen as often or as predicted. For example, you may have what has traditionally been a tender day on the calendar go by without barely a notice.

Your brain knows how to push out the poison…be patient.

Mark progress by how you get back up. This is integration.

Mark your progress by the feedback you get from others around you.

Mark your progress by looking at how your circle of support changes.

Mark your progress by accepting how you are wonderfully human.
