Trauma is a brain injury. As a result of traumatic experience our brains develop what I call “hot spots” that are direct wounds that may take time to heal. Just like other types of wounds, if we don’t directly treat the injury these spots can fester and grow. But sometimes we are not even aware these spots are in need of our attention…until we get triggered.
Activation is a direct spotlight on these injuries. When we feel triggered and particularly raw (feeling as if the traumatic event just happened even if it has been years in some cases) we have an opportunity to do some more work and heal our brains and our injuries on a deeper level.
If your reaction to something that is happening now is out of proportion to what is actually happening then pause and think about other times you have felt this level of discomfort. Chances are a hot spot just flared up and is need of some TLC. Seize the opportunity to tend to the wound on a deeper level and to heal the brain injury.
