When you are at capacity with your ability to hold emotions you know it. You have little tolerance which can translate to having little patience. You can find yourself feeling overwhelmed easily, irritated more than usual, and you can feel as if you are lost in the extreme and ever-changing peaks and valleys of emotion. For me, I feel cloudy at these times. I fee drained, fatigued, and disconnected.

It is normal to feel this way as we tamp emotions and move through our various duties and responsibilities. Emotions can feel like something we just don’t have time to process and/or deal with due to our ongoing and never ending to-do lists. We pack away our feelings and shove them into corners as if they are clothes in a closet we will clean out…when we have time. This doesn’t work and we tend to forget about the overflowing closet. We have to process our emotions if we are going to move through them. This has to become and remain a routine practice.

I am good at knowing what I need to do to increase my own bandwidth because I have helped others increase theirs as part of my career. We need to have tolerance if we are going to heal, grow, and feel balanced in our lives. When I feel overwhelm take hold I reset with deep breathe, find compassion for myself, and make room where I can. Journaling, exercising, writing, meditating, and taking to the caring others in my life tend to help me create more space.

Find your own practice (always include breathe) and make room where you can in your own life. This will most certainly help you rebuild your tolerance for the challenges ahead.
